Out parents brought it all the way from Arizona for us as a gift. We have only used it once and it definately is a real back yard smoker. The extender idea looks like a good one. I'm going to try it. The flames shooting out the top are a little scarry looking in the photo, but the fuel supply can't be big enough to sustain that for very long.

To listen to my famous backcountry songs and some tips on bear safety check out when Adventure-Crew takes a hike in Yellowstone’s Backcountry.

Thinking that the car is a secure place for one's expensive camera gear comes to a screeching halt when one returns to the car after a kayaking expedition to find the window smashed in with a rock.

This happened to Clint Pollock, President of Adventure-Crew last year. Fortunately, all of the camera gear was in use on the kayaks at the time. The wallet full of credit cards was quickly dealt with, and some other more minor gear had been stolen.

When traveling, the most secure location for your camera is in your hand, with the strap firmly wrapped around the wrist or across the body.

Adventure-Crew's DVD of Yellowstone National Park is another great way to learn how to be safe around wildlife.

re: Grilled Pizza-great for your first night out!

More tips from "Canyon Man" Stu, the outdoor chef;
What a great recipe. We tried this at home first, with the luxury of an outdoor gas grill. I can't wait to try it on the trail. We've decided to buy the veggies fresh, right before leaving town for the camp site. This will allow us to enjoy the fresh grilled peppers and onions.
Other tips that might help are remembering all of the great innovative kitchen aids that are out there today. We picked up a roll up cutting board from a kitchen supply store in the mall a few years ago. It's that hard, white nylon stuff, but in a thinner format that rolls up nicely. We could just chop up veggies and cook the meat before hand, but, hey, I am Canyon Man!! So, I want to do it ALL outdoors! Bugs in the grease and everything.
Also remember proper waste handling etiquette.
Safety tips include safe knife packing. My favorite kitchen chopping knife might not be the safest thing to be packed in a 3-day pack, so proper sheathing, whether conventional or provisional is necessary, here.

re: The Essentials for Backpacking

And don't forget the 'deet' when in the backcountry. While filming in the backcountry of Yellowstone I was attached by huge and I do mean HUGE bugs, if it wasn't for the deet and my quick hand/eye coordination I would have been eaten alive. Luckily the shoot was a success offering a hike through the backcountry to an amazing waterfall and even learn about bear safety. If you haven't seen the video, go check it out...
