Brothers in Utah

Our trip in 2005 when My older brother, younger brother and I went out west Like we used to in the 60's

October 2006 - Posts

  • A little information here to begin with.

This is a tale of my brothers and I going out west. When we were young, my family made trips out west in a station wagon and a pop-up camper. We made these trips in 64 67 and 70. My older brother only made the 1964 trip because he had graduated from high school and was starting his married life. My older brother Andy is 6 years older than I am and my younger brother Jim is 6 years younger. Growing up Jim and Andy really didn't spend much 'growing up time' together.

We are from Indiana and going out west is awesome for me. I wanted to get out there for a vacation adventure for many years but there always seemed to be something in the way. After dad passed away I resolved to get some of my family to get out there before the opportunity passed me by.

So having said that, here begins the Brothers Out West Adventure.

We flew from Indy to Las vegas. When we arrived in Vegas I had arranged a rental at a large name rental place. I work for GM and I had rented an Uplander to try it out because I was considering buying one. But when we got there they had a Dodge ready to go for us. I discussed the Uplander and they agreed to transfer us to one of those. So we moved the luggage to it while I filled out the paperwork. But when I got into the car I opened the door to find vomit all over the passenger seat and door. While I went back to get another Uplander My bros moved the luggage again. When I got out to the van my brothers noticed the AC wouldn't work, and it was 107. So I went back in and there were no other Uplanders available. So I asked for the Dodge and they said it was already rented. They said they had a Ford and the lot guy would be right there with it. When He got there he said we didn't want that one because it had no back seats. Egads! Well by then, The first Uplander had been cleaned so we got into it and got going.

I had gotten a GPS / route device from the rental place, and guess what, It didn't work.

Well, we made our way up to Snow Canyon State Park near ST. George UT. We then went to Hurricane UT and went by the old house of a family friend. They don't live there anymore but we went by anyway. We drove to Kolob Canyon and visited there awhile. then on to Cedar City for the evening.

Having heard a rattle in the back I searched for and found a Tequila bottle in the spare tire well. I guess I know where the vomit came from.

    End of the first day.
