The War on Drugs is Alive and Well Our National Parks

If the war on drugs was waged all over the country like it is in Olympic National Park, we might actually put this poisonous industry out of business once and for all.
Hats off to the commanding office who came up with the idea of departments working together that day. And hats off to “Rover”.

Park rangers make drug bust
By HECTOR CASTRO
P-I REPORTER
Rangers in Olympic National Park working a traffic patrol stopped a car for speeding and ended up with more than half a pound of marijuana, as much methamphetamine and nearly a quarter pound of cocaine.
"It's a pretty big drug bust for here," park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Wednesday.
The drug arrest took place Friday on state Route 101 near Lake Crescent, Maynes said.
The highway in that area is winding and the speed limit drops to 35 mph, she said. National Park rangers, who are commissioned officers, stopped a 2007 Lincoln Navigator for speeding.
With the rangers was a U.S. Forest Service Ranger with a drug-sniffing dog. The dog alerted the rangers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.
When that happened, the driver took off running into the woods but was quickly captured by the rangers and taken into custody, authorities said.
Inside the vehicle, the rangers found the drugs and almost $16,000 in cash. The man was booked into Clallam County Jail on some unrelated county charges, Maynes said.
The U.S. Attorney's Office will review the case to determine whether any federal charges will be brought against the driver, she said.
