National Park Title sought for Golden Gate Rec. Area

The sweeping expanse that includes parts of the San Francisco waterfront, Marin Headlands and iconic sites such as Alcatraz Island and Muir Woods would be renamed the Golden Gate National Parks, under a bill by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The legislation would slap a new moniker on the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, officially making it the 59th national park.

There is such a divergent difference in how tax money is handled and how authority is administrated in the establishment of a national park that the effort some times gets shelved because of negative local impact.

I wish that those who report on stories like this would go deeper and actually exercise journalism instead of just rubber stamping efforts of people like Nancy Pelosi; one known for bigger government.

This new bill sounds good on the surface, but I have more questions after reading the article in The SF Chronicle than before.
