    Golden Gate Recreation Area

This area is one of the largest urban parks in the world.  The park contains numerous historical and cultural resources, including Alcatraz, Marin Headlands, Nike Missile Site, Fort Mason, as well as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, and the Presidio of San Francisco.  I started off in downtown San Francisco and went to Alcatraz.  I recommend staying near Fisherman’s Warf.  There is a lot of activities and sites to see here.  To get to Alcatraz you must take a boat out to the island.  Be sure to reserve your tickets in advance, as there are a lot of people who want to go there.  Visit www.alcatraztickets.com for tickets.

Be sure to check out these pictures by going to the Hi-Res Picture Page and clicking on the Golden Gate Recreation Area in the California section.
