Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness Area is one of those places you will see very few people at during your stay. Located 2.5 hours SE of Phoenix you will need to bring your water shoes as your will be hiking in the river most of the way. The hike starts out very tame but the further you get into the canyon the more beautiful it will get. There is a place called Horse Camp about 5 or 6 miles from the trailhead. There are some excellent sites here and it is a great place to camp. From there you can continue on for another 5 or 6 miles where the scenery will get even better. The only problem is getting a ride back to your car as it is over an hour to the other side.
